We think of music as a source of entertainment. In fact, in both ancient and modern times, music has been a key component of celebrations, like weddings and cultural events. Scientific research on music and the brain has shown that music has more benefits than entertainment alone.According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), music therapy can help patients dealing with this neurodegenerative disease in numerous ways.



Music is closer to a form of communication. You can enjoy listening to some Norwegian folksinger who´s  voice sound angelical….and you have no idea what she is singing about. If you pick up a book published in a language you can’t read, then it is inaccessible. But this is not the case with music.

Maybe the creation of music is to change people’s mood and mind. Darwin and others have said it was a way to woo. Others believe music is social glue, a way to bring early humans together into a close-knit community.

If music is all about connecting us to a group, why do people listen in solitude as well? Usually what makes that feel good is that you are kind of being tricked—much like when you watch TV—into thinking you're interacting with people, tricked into thinking you're part of a group.
